Optical Drive sideways

Is it bad for an optical drive to be sideways? I was thinking of laying down my old P4 PC. However, because of the case, the optical drives will be sideways.

I assume it will be okay as I play my PS2 and 360 standing up (makes the drive sideways). Just wanted to confirm it's safe.

Just make sure that the tray that slides out has either the clips that slide out to hold the outer edge of the disk or the round clip in the middle.

Yup, definitely ok. I rarely ever use the clips cboucher is talking about, but some drive trays have them.

It should be okay, give it a try.

You'll notice that when it's operated on it's side the CD will stay in position due to the grooves in the tray.

It'll be fine.
