online for palm

i have a HP iPaq 1700 the windows 2002 mobile, and it says that i can get on the internet through dial-up, so would i plug it into the computer that i have the software installed into and dial through there or....how? i am using DSL, can i go through that, and if not i can plug in a phone line.
