okay i am going to use this sucker like a small server
to store and transfer data
also to back it up
and a multi-media experance
and for my ipod
or at least until i get a mac :p

any who tigerdirect.com sent me an email with a Pentium D 3.4 GHz processor
that would definately breath new life into this ageing pc
but its a 775 socket and i have no idea what socket is in there right now
and dell is thoughtless enough to just not tell me even if i look it up

i belive i can throw it inside but im not sure
here is the service tag: 3HZ6G51
one thing is for sure
i can sure use some more ram in it
i think i will bump that up to 1 gb or 2 dunno yet
then if i can ever find an IDE cable that has 2 connectors (3 total, 1 mobo and 2 device)
i would throw in an old HDD
and a new engine with the new suspension would be nice
if i can even do it to this old pc
thanks for the help

Well, do you happen to know what model the Dell was? That might help to figure out the processor socket type...

I threw in that same 3.4 GHz processor into my old Dell Dimension (9100?) and it worked fine until I upgraded to a better MOBO...

u gotta explain more man. so its the computer your using right now? if so then just right click my computer and go to properties and tell us what it says in the bottom right. and its intel. how old is the PC? i can probably tell if its maybe more then like 4-5 years old then it might be sckt 478

it is an old 2400
at least thats what it says on the front
i get this really bad feeling that its a socket 478 or what ever it is :(
and i looked in the properties and it doenst tell me what socket it is
and yes it is the pc that i am using right now
