Official Windows 10 Thread

That's a bit odd. I wouldn't think storage would be as big of an issue to get rid of reg backups.

Meh. Sounds like some pretty specific parameters in order to hit the bug; even then, sounds like only IT people would be running into this for the most part. Most people won't go fiddling with the default settings.

Microsoft says the bug is hitting Windows 10 version 1903 with KB4497935 update installed. According to the updated changelog, (RASMAN) service may stop working and administrators or users will receive an error “0xc0000005”. The bug is experienced when a computer is manually configured to the non-default telemetry setting of 0.

"You may also receive an error in the Application section of Windows Logs in Event Viewer with Event ID 1000 referencing “svchost.exe_RasMan” and “rasman.dll”," Microsoft noted.

It's important to note that the aforementioned problem occurs when you have a VPN profile configured as an Always On VPN (AOVPN) connection with or without device tunnel. You may not experience any such issues on manual-only VPN profiles or connections.

I will admit that these bugs will affect mostly those that are tech savvy and have telemetry set off, and using a vpn. The average users would not know anything.

Software has bugs. Large, complex software moreso. I won't pretend to like Microsoft or Windows but these are pretty bottom-of-the-barrel things to pick up on when there's so many bigger issues with Microsoft and their products.

The only thing I HHHAAAAAAAAAAAAATE with a passion is the automatic forced restarts. Few times now I've been working and gone to get something, come back to it finishing rebooting after installing updates cause it decided I "wasn't using my computer". The script/conversion/recording/whatever I was running when I left? ****ed

I had a pc with 1809 version on it and yesterday it did the upgrade to 1903. I was then faced with a black desktop after the update because the previous desktop pic has vanished, not even to be found in Windows.old folder

Found this, related to the RASMAN/VPN KB:
https://www.zdnet.com/article/the-windows-10-misinformation-machine-fires-up-again/

Basically, the original story was FUD. The update was an optional, preview KB for Windows 10 Enterprise only. And only affected systems that were using AOVPN (very specific kind of VPN configuration for corporate net works) with the telemetry setting configured to 0 (which can only be done via Group Policy or editing the registry).

There is more than one source for this RASMAN issue.

Another Windows 10 update....

Cumulative update KB4507469 is behind another known issue causing a small number of devices to potentially "startup to a black screen during the first logon after installing updates."
The Windows 10 KB4507453 Cumulative Update released by Microsoft on July 9 is reportedly causing a restart notification loop on some of the computers where it was installed.

Windows 10 users are finding that the /sfc scannow feature is no longer working and that it states it found, but could not fix, corrupted Windows Defender PowerShell files.
