Is it possible/legal/ethical to use a "unbranded" or otherwise OEM win xp disk
to reformat/reinstall xp onto a computer as long as it has a OEM coa?

Yes, it's possible. As long as you still have the license key, it's fine. If you really want to do things the "proper" way, you could contact MS and they'll send you a new disc.

That would involve talking to some person in India who you can't understand...like the last time I tried to call Microsoft.

First time and LAST time I'll do that, I'll tell ya that much. Frickin outsourcing anyways...

Good glad it can be done, Guess I have a Few more Specific questions

Is there a way to get a "unbranded" disk that I can reformat any computer
as long as they have a Legit COA?

also and more importantly if i managed to acquire one is this legal?

I don't think there's any "legal" way to get it without actually asking microsoft for a copy...but no one wants the hassle of that. USING it would be legal since you have a valid code, but obtaining it would probably be "technically" illegal...

You'd be looking at something like this
