no sound, please help

I recently bought a laptop (yesterday) and it had many prgrams I did not need, so I reformated Windows (XP) on it. NOW the sound doesn't work all I hear is beeps whenever something pops up.........Any suggestions?

Sounds like you need some drivers (no pun intended).

Find out what chipset you have (use Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/EVEREST_Free_Edition_d4181.html). Then go to the manufacturer's web site and download the ones you need.

Drivers are the instructions your computer needs to use the hardware that is in your laptop. Without them, it can't use them.
