New system using old parts

Hello. I want to build a pretty much new system, but if possible use some of my older system's parts aswell to save money.

Sorry if that is too much/too little information, I do not know much about hardware :p.
I heard someone talking about buying another graphics card of the same type and linking them together or something, would that be a good idea?
I would use the new system to play games like LotRO on the highest settings.

A little more info would help. Things such as hard drive size and interface type (IDE or SATA), memory type (DDR, DDR2) and video card interface such as AGP or PCI Express.

A couple of nice little apps that can tell you more about your system are PC Wizard and Belarc Advisor
