New Ram, problem

My friend got new ram for his Dell 4600. Before, he had/has two 256 sticks and now he just got a Gigaram 1g of ram. When he take all the old ram out and put in just the new one the computer makes 5 one second long beeps and nothing comes up on his monitor, nothing. He has DDR. What could be causing this??? Thanks!

The motherboard manual will tell you what the number of beeps represent whether it is not properly installed etc. If you dont have a the motherboard manual for it give dell a call and ask them, they have good tech support, use it.

Possibly bad ram, or try switching them around, see if that works out.

Figured it out, you have to pair them and they must be the same size, so we ordered another one, thanks for the help!

ya , its not a good idea telling dell you installed the parts yourself,, doesnt that void the warrenty

he fixed it and thats what matters now
