I have an a7n8x-dx mobo, and i xp 2800+ processor, i was thinking of upgrading my processor.... first off... can my motherboard take an upgrade or do i need a new mobo too?

any links to products on newegg would be help and useful

looking forward to the help, you guys always do a good job.

this is kind of a repost, but my other one got locked b/c someone was trash talking in my thread :(

I would upgrade both if I were you. What is your budget on this little endeavor? Can you afford to get a new graphics card as well? If so, I can whip up a nice package suiting your budget, with or without a new graphics card.

Not everyone is rich, zen. I would recommend just upgrading the motherboard, but with that you'll have to get a new CPU. I would recommend Socket 754 if you are on a budget. 939 is just slightly out of the range of budget users.

If you really don't want to upgrade both, then just get a new socket A CPU. Unfortunately that upgrade would be limited to these:

Before you go buying a new graphics card or anything, tell us what you have.

I just bought a eVGA 6600gt, and so i don't have that much money, which is why i was hopeing my mobo could take a a new processor to get me some more GHz, so my mobo and processor or out of date? blah, and on top of that, i don't know the inside of computers very well... at all lol

i heard installing a processor was easy, but installing a new mobo... eeeeeee

wow... i'm lost

my video card is AGP, so in order for me to get a good mobo i need to PCI card don't I? seem like AGP is useless now, seeing that the new 7800 nvidia is only pci

lets put it this way.. my budget is working at a fast food place and just got out of highschool and make about $130 every 2 weeks.... clearly... not going to get anything great lol

actually if you save for a month or 2 you can get a 939 system. also its not "pci" because pci is old, its pci-express wich is much better than pci or agp, although it doesnt use the full bandwidth yet.
do some extra jobs or something, youll be able to get some money if you try.

...now i wish i wouldn't have gotten the gfx card, i'm not about to replace my gfx card when its not even a month old yet

i wish i had 1k of cash and new a bit about the inside of computers...

so many wires! lol

i put together this stuff

i would hope it all worked together, but adding that all up is 1000$... and a lot of stress and screaming

so all that i will not be getting b/c i just went through stress and screaming on getting the 6600gt and another 512 pc3200 stick of ram. after getting them and seeing how easy it was to install that stuff... i know a mobo is going to be tricket to do, and a power supply... don't even want to think of installing a power supply. i hear processor is really easy, almost like the ram. ahhh... how i wish i was born rich lol
