New Mac user

I currently have a HP laptop and am now switching to a new macbook...being a windows user i have have a virus protector and a firewall installed on my laptop. I have read and herd from people that you dont need virus software of a firewall on Macs! Is this true? if it is why is it? If its now what virus/firewall software do you recommend?

hey im a mac user, hince the avatar, you dont need either a firewall or a virus program... Mac OS is built on the very strong UNIX operating system, and because most of its software is designed by apple for mac, they arent as many "holes" in the code. And since Mac doesnt have the same market share as a windows, bad guys dont waste a lot of time trying to make a virus for the mac.
