new laptop

hey guys i just got a new laptop a dell xps140 and its a great laptop. However, i am trying to connect to the internet without using its wireless features and it is not working. I have a modem from sbc yahoo and its broadband DSL of course. i am currently connecting the modem to a d-link router and then connecting that to my laptop because i'm sharing my connection with my xbox and my old destop. the old destop and xbox seems to be able to connect to the internet through the router but my laptop isnt. can anyone help me solve this problem??

Did you check your TCP-IP Settings? Also, under internet connections, try turning off 'automatically detect settings'
