I'm building a new computer and would like some feedback.

Questions

What fan should I use on the Heatsink?
What sound should I get?
I have a Live! X-Gamer. Would that be fine?
Anything I have missed. It's been awhile since my last build.

Well, that will certainly be a very nice gaming RIG. Nice selection of mid to high-end parts.

Just a couple of personal opinions.

1.) If you can squeeze a few more dollars into your budget, check out this PSU: PC POWER & COOLING Turbo-Cool 510 Deluxe SLI. It's about $200.00 but, it is also the best PSU hands down on the planet. The way I look at it, if your going to spend a bunch of money on a system tha is loaded with high-end componets, you want to make sure you have plenty of NON-Fluctuating power.

2.) Take a look at the Zalman 7000 All Copper HS&FAN. It's perfect for AMD 64's.

3.) Very nice choice on the CORSAIR XMS TWINXL PRO's I've got 2 gig of these and they are frekin' amazing... SO OCable it's not even funny. And they just dropped the price too. Best purchase for the money...

4.) SB Audigy 2 Gamer Edition is perfect for ya.. Or may-be ask DJ-CHRIS about some of his favorite turtle beach sound cards... he's the turtle beach fanboy. lol
OTher then that, you'll be fraggin' good...

looks good, expect few changes would be:

AMD64 3800+ --> amd64 3200+venice
you can't even feel the difference between a 3200 and 3800+, and the 3200 will probably overclock better (not sure about this)

corsair XMS --> it's crap for the price, in fact, all corsair are mostly crap IMO; if you're not going to overclock, then go for the twinMOS ram (1gb) on newegg for only $94.35; if you give them enough voltage, they will OC better than the corsair and i believe the twinmos actually uses UTT chips, which is probably better than whatever the corsair uses, and you can get them for $94.35 on newegg (they will perform the same as the corsair)

if you ARE going to overclock, then go for the OCZ platinum rev2's for around $185; if you're looking to get every last mhz outta your CPU, then go for the G skill LA's or LE's for around $250-270

the zalman 7700cu's are better than the XP-90 heatsinks, so i'd suggest that

as for sound card, if you just want sound that works, then onboard sound or a turtle beach santa cruz would work

if you want to spend a little more, than you should look at the m-audio revolution, audiophile, or 2496 (dunno what good cards creative has)

Creative's good cards are their EMU line, but are out of the price range.

The soundblaster may do you fine. Go somewhere and find a good sound card, test it out with good headphones. If you dont notice a difference, keep the crapblaster. If you are like me and your ears almost bleed from crapblasters, time to get a new card.

And it's not that I super like turtle beach, it's just their cards are better and cheaper.

hasnt turtle beach discontinued their santa cruz line though? O yea, thats a nice comp. and Havok, he doesnt need that really expensive PSU, the antec neopower is pretty damned good

DIABLOII - What are you basing your opinion about Corsair XMS being crap? That RAM for the Price is damn good. $218 for a 512x2 kit? Do you even know which ones he's talking about? I really don't think you do. (CMX512-3200XLPRO) with 2.2.2.5 timings. They are guaranteed to overclock to over 500MHz. THey out perform all of the Corsair DDR2's and probably all of the DDR's from any other company. DO yourself a favor and (GOOGLE) the reviews on these ram modules before you go and say something that flat out isn't true.

the zalman 7700cu's are difficult to fit on the DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR - I know i had that problem, that's why i recommended the 7000.

OK I have updated some parts based on recommadations. I changed to the 3200+ with the 7700 Heatsink and added the Audigy2 ZS GAMER. I currently have a set of older Klipsch all I remember is that they were one of the first to have 4 satilite speakers and support dobly 5.1. They should be OK for awhile.

The power supply is out of stock. Also I can not find the PC POWER & COOLING Turbo-Cool 510 Deluxe SLI. Any ideas where I can find it?

The memory I think I will leave for now unless someone can talk me out of it. I have used Corsair for 4 years and never a problem. Plus it's only $30 more.

Has anybody used the new 64Bit XP on their system? Would it be worth it to purchase?

$200.00 isn't really expensive when you weight it against the $1300-$1600 that he's going to spend on his system. Plus you don't want to skimp on the PSU ever. IF he's willing to pay 125 on a Antec PSU, then another $75.00 for the best won't hurt him.

I noticed that the zalman 7000B-CU only has a 92mm fan. You said it was difficult but not impossible. If I upgraded to 2G of memory in the future will I have probelms. I would think the 120mm fan on the 7700 would cool much better. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
