New Computer Help Please.

Hi,
Well, I can't find that to click on it. I see Thread/Thread stater and I clicked it and clicked it and clicked. I finally decided it is not a link. <grin>

I am not even sure who I am replying to here. I may be replying to myself. I see my username at the top of this.

I would never make it in a forum but I sure would like to have some help with buying a computer.

Well, thanks for trying to help me. I guess I will go buy a DELL since I am just not smart enough to get around in this forum.
The only way I found my way back here was to remember the number of the post.
Thanks,
Donna

I came up with this.. what do you guys think.. I can't order from newegg obviously because I'm in Canada. Also, CAD prices are still higher than American =/

I am really uncertain about the ram. I am trying to pick between many. Tell me what you guys think.

Do you guys know any good resellers that will ship to Canada?

this comes to about 1600 CAD which is reasonable.

Please please don't get the Antec 1200. If you really want a case of the same type then go for the NZXT Tempest. But I would recommend a Gigabyte 3D Aurora or a Thermaltake Armor/Shark.

The amount of RAM really depends on whether you'll be running Vista or XP. XP will run fine with 2GB but I had a nice performance boost when going from 2GB to 4GB. You don't need anything more than some good 800MHz RAM for an Intel setup.

If you're not doing SLI then do not go with an Nvidia mobo, they do not handle high FSB speeds as well as a P35 or X38. Plus I'd say CrossfireX is the superiour technology anyway (P45 will have CrossfireX support). Not to mention the 780i's are way too expensive.

As for the PSU, I'd say go for the cheaper StealthXStream (they are exactly the same except don't have an LED fan). 600W is more than sufficient.

GPU, I'd say wait for the HD 4870. Launch date is 15th June and performance is comparable to the GX2 whilst the die size is less than 300mm2 and the TDP only 150W.
