networking winxp and 2000 pro

Hi there everyone. The problem im having is im trying to connect a laptop running win 2000 pro to a desktop running win XP. Im using an old Hub. I want them to share a dial up connection if this is possible. If anyone has got the time to help me it would be greatly appreciated. The problem seems to be getting the I.P addresses in order. If anyone could give me an example of what settings i would set on each computer i would be eternally thankfull. There seems to be a problem with the settings of the NIC on the xp machine as ive tried to ping the IP address it says its using and it times out everytime but i know the card works because i put it in another machine and it worked fine

p.s I have already checked all the NICs, Hub and cables and they are all working so its not a hardware issue
