What I want to know is if I can take a netbook and a laptop, connect them with a VGA cable, and have the laptop use the netbook as a secondary screen. Obviously I don't have a netbook or I would have tried this but I was interested in buying one some time and wanted to know if this is possible.

When I built my new system I had both monitors connected to it, so how to access my old WinXP pro computer? I simply connected the old computer to the network switch, without a keyboard or mouse, and fired it up. Then used windows remote and accessed it from my current machine.

Ooops, I just realized you were tying to use the other one as a monitor...Doh!

VGA out is just an output db-9 connector. It's function is fixed. There have been some shots at crossing them over using a network connection but it's unstable and more trouble than it's worth.
