Okay so if you remember me and some friends are renting an apartment in Montreal this summer.

Anyways, what would you consider the 'heart' of downtown montreal? I ask this because I want to get an apartment near downtown, but its kind of hard to judge how far something is from downtown montreal if i don't know where it is. When I say downtown, I mean areas with lots of clubs and bars and stuff. Thanks in advance.

Try google earth. You can enable businesses to show up on the map so you can get an idea where the main downtown sector is located.

I'm in West Canada so I can't help you anymore than that.

The center of Montreal is where Ste.Caterine Street is. Its anywhere near that area, and also the old port.
It's near Ville-Marie.

Also, it is possible without a word of French, but now, it's a big debate here. People complain about French being jeopardised by other languages.

I wish USA was at least becoming over populated with French speaking and not Spanish...

Sorry for not being any help, only been to Montreal 1 time and i was like 12 and it was for a hockey tournament.
