I am gonna buy a desktop computer and I am stumped(yet again) for ideas. Does anyone have any recommendations? I am a pretty heavy gamer, with games like BF series, Source engine games, and other stuff. My budget is preferably under $1000 and I would prefer a pre-config, but am willing to build it. By the way the budget is Canadian not American, so ya. Anything is appreciated.

Definitely build, you'll get wayyy better performance for the price.

Get something like this:
Core 2 Duo E6400

2 GB DDR2-667

GeForce 7600GT (eventually upgrade to a DirectX10 card)

Asus P5B-E motherboard or similar

At least a 500 watt PSU

Nice 320 gig Seagate hard drive with Perpendicular recording:

This is assuming you already have a monitor and such. Use whatever's left over for CD drives, etc.

Well I was looking and I just wanted to ask what CPU should I get. An Athlon X2 or a Core 2 Duo?

Well, then those are just the recommendations so you can read all the specs. Buy it wherever you can find it for cheap.

Core 2 Duo OWNS Athlon X2. Anyone will tell you that. The E6600 is amazing. Get that, it's faster than I think all of the Athlons, including the very very expensive FX series.

Ok I'm looking around for some parts and should get a list up soon where I'll need some more opinions of it. Thanks

the 7600GT should be able to play the mentioned cames, atleast the source series at High Res...and its pretty cheap since you have a budget...

CORE 2 owns...and I have an X2...ohh well

uhmm...MOBO, get an SLI compatable MOBO, that will be a nice feature in the future...

yeah the build that freestyler did is a sound build...
