Is it possible to make calls using your pc. I have been given some alternatives but all of them seem to require internet access. I was wondering if it was possible to dial a friends local phone number using my modem and just talking to her using my computer headset without having to connect to the internet. your help will be greatly appreciated.

there's typically two ports on a modem. One is for the line to the wall jack and the other for an external device, such as a phone fax or answering machine.

the port for the jack is usually represented by a keystone icon and the external device with a phone icon.

plug any phone into the port with the phone icon and you can place a call on the line when its not in use by the computer. if you want to make calls while using your comp, you'll need to look into phone apps or Voice over IP.
