Need help with motherboard and processor

Ok I'm new here so I'd like to say hey to everyone. Now to get onto the big issue I'm trying to build a computer for both animation and programing(i'm taking computer science and I'm going to minor in Communication arts). So what I'm trying to say is do I really need dual processors or is Intel HT powerful enough and what motherboard would you choose? Oh and is the Nvidia SLI the way to go also?

budget? are yo going to be doing gaming?? is it 3danimation or flash?

oops I'm going to be using Maya, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe after affects and C++.I only had $1,000 and now I've just sold my Psp for $300. And my dad said he'd lone my another thousand if I'll pay him back. So around $2300 but I can probaly sell my old toshiba laptop if need be.

well im not sure about the AMD dual cores but i know INTEL is the way to go for non-gaming apps. so i'd get the cheapest dual core INTEL u can find
