I've installed and removed many CPU heatsink/fan combo's before, but now I have a Volcano 7 that I want to use with my Athlon XP 2000+. Problem is, I need to find a way to remove the stock HSF without damaging the processor die or the motherboard in any way. I've tried using both a phillips head and a flathead screwdriver to push the retention clip out, but it doesn't want to budge.

Anyone know of a 'clean' way to remove the retail AMD HSF?

Thanks for the help, though I got my dad to do it. :D Finally got it off and a new Thermaltake Volcano 7+ running smoothly.

Spent nearly an hour with a flathead screwdriver and we found a nut driver lying around, and used that as well.

Just to anyone upgrading an HSF combo: The stock AMD HSF's are a big pain to remove. If you do it incorrectly, you can damage the motherboard (static damage from screwdriver) or crack the CPU die if an unequal amount of pressure is applied between the retention clip, HSF or the CPU itself.
