I will be attending GA TECH this coming fall and it is now required that all freshmen have laptops. Originally i was planning on bringing my desktop.

Im still gonna bring this desktop but I need help finding a laptop

they specs that GA TECH requires is 2 gb ram 120gb + hdd and dual core 2 ghz processor

Im not into the laptop scene. I dislike laptops and hate using them. Can somebody help me find a decent laptop FOR AS CHEAP AS POSSIBLE

all it needs to do is access internet and type. everything else will be done on my desktop

dont really have a budget, but i dont expect the prices to be outrageous for those specs.

Yes it can be refurbised

I wouldn't go with an AMD on a laptop for sure because I can tell you that I made that mistake already. It's not that it's bad, it's just it's not what I want when I'm loading multiple applications. Though this may not be what you think is you, you'd be surprised how much processor power you will want to use with your laptop.

My recommendations:

and if you can splurge for it

Lenovo is a fantastic brand, one of the better ones imo. The latter comes with a downgrade to XP, which will really help you improve multitasking tasks and is a real bargain at that price. If you do want Vista, then either will work just fine but as a computer sales rep, I can tell you that Core 2 Duo makes all the difference in a work horse computer.

This is also a good deal:

Comes with Microsoft Office already installed. Is also upgradeable to 8 GB of RAM, which is great for extended use (3+ years).

I have a dell studio 17 it works great for schooling i bought one with 320gig hdd,4 gig ram, and intel core 2 duo extreme, and it has bio-metric fingerprint scanner wich in my opinion is important for students, you can get one at dell.com for a not bad price

I prefer the facial recognition webcams. The newest laptops are coming with these.
