NEC MultiSync LCD 2080UX+ question

I have a NEC MultiSync LCD 2080UX+ monitor at work that I wanted to use with an older piece of test equipment that came out in the 90's which has a port that is configured just like a VGA port far as the color and vertical/horizontal sync connections are concerned and the jack is blue like a normal VGA jack.

The problem is that the tester with the CRT is not standard VGA compatible, but does list a few NEC Multi Sync CRT monitors that will work. Later versions of the tester used an LCD screen and they are VGA compatible. I have the earlier one with the CRT.

The problem is on the NEC monitor it will display the image, but it's shifted to the right maybe 1" and an out of range message pops up. It also won't allow me to access the menu when that message pops up.

I am so close to getting it to display right and believe I could get it if I could access the menu as I could use the horizontal position and size controls to adjust it properly.

Is there any way to force the menu to display when the out of range message shows or is there some sort of small relatively inexpensive adapter that will convert a not fully compatible VGA signal to a fully compatible VGA signal?

I know there's adapter boards for arcade machines that will convert pretty much any video signal to VGA, but those are larger and usually without a case given they are meant to mount inside an arcade cabinet.

The reason for this is the CRT isn't as bright as it once was, but is still somewhat usable and to replace the CRT would require the contractor who calibrates it to do it and management isn't going to spend money to replace a CRT that is still usable even though it's much dimmer than it was new as production for the unit tested by that tester would be stopped until it is fixed.

The problem is when the out of range menu pops up I am unable to bring up the main menu so I can adjust it.

I wonder if connecting the monitor to a VGA output that it can display and setting expansion mode to FULL would do it given the image is expanded to 1600 X 1200 regardless of the resolution. Will that setting be retained when I connect the monitor to the test set or will it be reset?

From the manual for the tester.

Horizontal scan rate of 25.5 kHz must be supported.

From the monitor service manual.

Synchronization Horizontal: 31.5 kHz to 91.1 kHz

That explains the problem.

I would tend to think that if the control buttons on the front of the monitor are not functional, then replace it.

The buttons work as when a standard VGA signal is being displayed I can access the menus and change settings.

It's only when the out of range message is displayed that I cannot adjust the settings.

Likely the manufacturer did that because it would likely do no good to adjust the settings for an out of range signal and could perhaps even cause damage to the monitor.

I tried one of these VGA to HDMI adapters with an HDMI to DVI cable thinking maybe it would accept any VGA signal, but it didn't work.

I'm pretty sure the output is not exactly VGA even though HP used a VGA connector on the test equipment with it wired just like a VGA connector

Thinking that might work.

It worked with a scope that has a VGA output, but not the other tester.

Are there any small adapters that will handle any analog video signal and output to VGA or HDMI?

I know there's boards for video game cabinets that would do what I want, but those would require me to get a case made for them.
