My videos are dark!

All my movie videos that I have on my computer are playing very dark. I tried opening them with Winamp and Windows Media but the problem is still there. I think I need to get a codec from somewhere but I have no idea where.

Also you might have a setting on your monitor that can change the brightness so that movies appear brighter.
