My phone was hacked!

It means they can use your email address to send you an email notice, They make claims they have your account, but as most spammers they "spoof" the address....not their real email that they use to send. Could be your own or somebody else's ( that you might personally know) address. Malicious emails are sent this way in order to get someone to open an attachment or a doc/pdf that can have a virus or a link to a malicious web site.
They also use "Social Engineering" to attempt to scare you into sending them money, or to gain access to an account by coaxing you to use a password that they can get from a fake web page. Spoofing makes it difficult to track these types of emails.
