Hello all, I'm new to these forums and I'd like your help in building a Video Editing Machine.

My Budget is $1200 AUD (currency on the site)
I only want to use this website: Computer Hardware, Computer Parts & Software Australia | Techbuy Australia

Here is what I have so far:

ASUS Radeon HD 6870 - 1GB GDDR5 - $260.60
Seagate 500GB 7200rpm Serial ATA-III-600 Barracuda - $104.50
G.Skill 16GB (4 x 4GB) PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 RAM - 9-9-9-24 - Ripjaws-X - $116.60
Intel Core i7-2700K Quad Core CPU (3.50GHz, 3.90GHz Turbo, 850MHz GPU) - LGA1155 - $405.90
ASUS P8Z68-V LX Motherboard LGA1155, Z68 (B3 Stepping), 4xDDR3-2200, 2xPCI-Ex16 v2.0, 2xSATA-III, 4xSATA-II, RAID - $162.60
CoolerMaster RC-502 Centurion 5 II Midi-Tower Case - 500W PSU, Black 2xUSB2.0, 1xeSATA, 1xHD-Audio, 1x140mm, 1x120mm Fan - $122.10

Too make it easier here are the part codes:
163903
179151
163407
181203
176617
134633

I have limited knowledge with hard-ware so I dont know if it is all compatible or if the PSU is big enough.

Please remember I need this for video editing and a little bit of gaming. I want the best performance for my money. Thanks in advanced! :flowers:

The PSU is probably small.

I've been using the ASUS PSU calculator lately. ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Recommended Power Supply Wattage Calculator

500 Gigs for the HDD will fill up fast, really any size would if you're doing video editing. You'll have to periodically clear out your raw video files. 2 TB might be better though.

That processor is awesome but it's only a tiny bit faster than the i5 2600k which is about half the price. You can see the bench scores on Anandtech:

AnandTech - Bench - CPU

I have tons more info on hardware on my site if you care to peruse:

www.diyallday.com/how-to-build-a-computer (cough-cough-shameless-plug-cough)

The 500GB is essentially for the O.S and Programs. I have 3 x 2TB HD's sitting here waiting to be used :)

The power supply and if everything works together was my main problem, and thanks for the advice on the processor, seriously considering that.

Very nice site by the way!

Best bet is to get a 1,000 watt, it's video editing correct? wonder what the furture holds for watt.. I suggest a 1,000 watt

lol i have a cooler master silent pro 850w modular psu... i would get that... that is alot of hardware to be running off of 500w... for video editing... from what i heard i7 will be more benificiary cuzz of hyper threading... but there is no reason for a 2700k... maybe at most 2600k... 16gb is alot.. idk how much is used on a video editing software... but i have 8 and i am only using like 30% of that under battlefeid 3 at high settings while browsing the web... if i were to recommend a case it would be the nzxt source 210... love it and looks sharp and it is cheap... if u still have money go for crossfire 6870 or a 6950... it will work out better...
