My computer's gotten pretty slow over the last 6 months

I'm working on the CHKDSK log. Will have it up shortly. In the meantime, what are you suggesting (in numbers) for the System Restore allocation? And is Pagefile the same thing or is that completely different?
They're different.

System Restore = a restore point you can set to revert back to if an update or system change screws up. I recommend 3-5% usage (if that).

Page file = virtual memory that supplements your standard/physical RAM in case it fills up. If you're on a SSD, this should be on a secondary drive (or disabled if no secondary drive exists). I usually set it to "Custom Size" and set the min/max to the same thing to prevent it from growing out of control - I usually set it to 4096MB (4GB).

Is there some way to tell it to back up to external drive? Keep in mind my external is not always plugged in.

No, not for system restore. It's either on or off or each partition (or drive).

Here's the log. Thanks a lot man :)

Well the log definitely says that it fixed some things which is good. Most likely why you saw the boost in performance.
