hey im about to purchase a LCD monitor but have no idea on what need to look for. all i know that low MS time is good for gaming and was wondering what are some other things that i should look for.

Contrast ratio, warrenty, price, max/native resolution and brand name.

Contrast ratio: Average is around 450 to 550. The higher, the better, but 500 is good.

Warranty: LCDs are prone to getting dead pixels. Make sure you get a good warrenty.

Price: There is good quality LCDs available locally for around $300-$400 CAD.

Max/Native Resolution: The max resolution is pretty self explanitory. The native resolution is the resolution that the picture looks its clearest. THe LG that I am on right now has 1280x1024 max resolution and native resolution.

Brand Name: Everyone has had their good or bad experiences with LCDs and certain brand names.

I personally dont own an LCD monitor. I am on an LCD right now at work. It is an LG1710S. It has really good picture quality, and is nice and bright (but adjustable).

Response Time: Is the measure of how long a display takes to change the image. You're right, the lower this number is, the better. But, the lower this is, the more expensive the monitor is too. 12ms is good for games and everyday tasks and isnt too expensive. There are 8ms, but they are kinda excessive.

Physical size and also maximum resolution.
I'd go for at least a 17" LCD with a 1280x1024 maximum resolution. If you can get any higher with a low MS response time, then you're up for a nice LCD.

nice monitor. if i'm not mistaken that's the most popular one newegg sells. good contrast and response, the 8,5, and 4ms responses are nice, but not necessary, 12 is fine.

It's not cheap by any means, but if you insist on an LCD, thats what you need. Now of course I am going to highly recommend this CRT over the LCD for you:

It's not cheap either, but it's cheaper than the LCD. If you are really into gaming, either one of these monitors would suit you best, but I really do recommend the CRT. A note to you, no matter how low the response time on an LCD is, it will never compare to a good old CRT. End of story.

that Samsung is perfectly fine for gaming, it's not the best but it's a good value, however if you want a CRT (they have better preformance/cash) then i would reccomend the NEC 19" superbright (FE991SB) but since newegg no longer sells it this one looks good, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824001169
otherwise i would stick with the samsung unless you got some cash to blow
