The day before yesterday my trusty, but aging CRT monitor gave up the ghost. I am currently using a horrid little 15" Dell job I had (luckily) knocking about in the attic. So naturally, i'm in the market for a new monitor. As you'd expect i'm well out of touch with what is the currently accepted standard for monitors. I am told, both by friends and by online stores, that i'm pretty much going to end up buying a LCD, so what's good enough? I use my PC for general use, and a fair amount of gaming, so will 8ms be good enough? I don't know. Do I need even that? What should I look for in a new monitor? I don't really fancy spending more than £175 on it, but am I being unrealisitic? Do I need to spend more?

So many questions.

I was considering this, any idea if this will do the job?

go for it, but why not look at the 19's as well.... the the one you picked is very nice... 8ms, 700:1 Active TFT... VERY nice... find that in a 19 and you set...

This should end up around your price range. :) Uses the best cathode ray tube made and will give better image quality. How ever they use up alot of space (I own two that share the same basic tube.)

For LCD's (if you must :p) I would personally look at the viewsonics: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/17_Inch_LCD_Monitors.html

Look for a high contrast ratio more than the ms.
Cheers for that, i've been avoiding the move to LCD for a while, but space and convnience have finally defeated me. :D

The 22" is a a beauty though.

No other way round. You want a high contrast ratio. 450:1 < 700:1 It will give you better colours basically.

Oh right, I thought that the lower the ratio....ok then. Cheers for the advice, i'm definitely considering the Viewsonic.
