Today I got the mfehidk.sys blue screen issue which I managed to resolve so I thought I would post here how I fixed the mfehidk.sys blue screen error along with what I learned about the error.


Issue : mfehidk.sys blue screen


The issue is that you have McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8 on your system and when you access certain external drives such as CD/DVD/USB/SD-CARD you got a blue screen of death with the file mfehidk.sys showing at the bottom. The issue seems to be a bug in the McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8 software where there is an issue with the time stamp on the file mfehidk.sys.


Resolution For : mfehidk.sys blue screen


Lucky for us the resolution is simple, Go to the McAfee website and download and install HotFix 438771. This is what I did and the mfehidk.sys blue screen issue has not come back.

But I have seen this has not fixed the issue for many other users. If the above does not resolve the issue you can phone McAfee support who can manually replace the mfehidk.sys file on your system.

You can also try to download and install the latest version of McAfee VirusScan Enterprise as this will have the hotfix included in the install.

I have seen that if you have Daemon Tools 4.* installed on your machine this can cause conflicts with the mfehidk.sys file. If you have Daemon tools installed you will need to either uninstall Daemon tools or if you don't want to uninstall you will need to contact http://www.daemon-tools.cc for assistance because McAfee wont support you if Daemon tools are installed.
