Memory on my PC is bad...

Hi,

I got GTA San Andreas for the PC because the fake one I had stopped working. I hadn't played in ages, so I reinstalled it on my PC, but the game runs really slowly (really slow framerate), so it's iimpossible to play the game.

I suppose that this is due to the memory being low. I have some random processes running, some of which I ended, because I'm not sure whether to end some of them. One of my friends told me to de-fragment the hard drive and from there add and remove programs, but is there an easier way to just get rid of crappy processes running in the background and getting rid of some useless porgrams and files?

Thanks...

Besides reformatting your PC, here's some things to check out:
- Disable unnecessary startup programs (Start > Run > type msconfig and press enter > Startup tab)

- Update your drivers (big one, could be causing problems)

- Do a full system antivirus and antispyware scan, I recommend AVG Antivirus and Ad-aware for free programs. You may want to post a HijackThis log as well
AVG: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5
Ad-aware: http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html
HijackThis: http://www.download.com/HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10379544.html?tag=lst-0-1

- Disk Cleanup, I think this is what you were looking for. Pick your hard drive, and select anything that can be removed. (Start > Program Files > Accessories > Disk Cleanup)

- And as your friend said, defragging will probably help. Just leave it on overnight. (My Computer > Rightclick your hard drive > Properties >Tools tab > Defragment Now)

Also, post your full system specs. It'll let us help you more.

de frag is essential. you cant avoid it. i do it weekly. sometimes daily :O ... all that above is great advice. make sure you have a good firewall aswell. always comes in handy to stop crap from the net
