yes and its been broken for about a week and a half, two weeks. Anyway the time period doesn't really have much to do with the problem.

get rid of dr watson. also, if you can access safe mode, well remove dr watson like I said, remove and reinstall nortons, check event viewer for error descriptions and post them, reboot. since you are getting an I/O error, you may wanna go back into safe mode (if it still doesn't work) and remove the PCI Bus and restart. It will reboot and redect his hardware and hopefully correct any problems with it. thats the quick and dangerous way, because he'll need to know how and where to path out to to install the drivers, he'll wanna have the o/s cd, too. If he wants the slow and painful way install drivers one by one, starting with the vid card. actually, with the vid card set it as starndard PCI graphics adapter VGA, and restart to see if it runs fine like that. yeah, the graphhics will look like crap, but if it restarts then the problem is corrupted graphics driver. when vid card drivers go bad, all sorts of weird crap can happen. SOOOOO, if it restarts, then reinstall the vid card drivers and test. If not, go to the next item, remove/unintsall from DM.
