Hello ive just had an idea to make an infrared LED USB light as to light up the room more for my camera. i have never done anything like this before so I need to know about USBs. I need to know how much power a USB can output and what pins do what within the USB cable.

EDIT: unless anyone knows of one that i can buy within the UK

This wikipedia post will tell you basically everything you'd ever want to know about USB:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Serial_Bus

The following is from that article:
Pin Function
red 1 VBUS (4.75–5.25 volts)
white 2 D−
green 3 D+
black 4 GND

Basically you can just cut off all the wires except the red one and somehow attach your LED to the red wire.
