making a moving map

i'd like to make an animated movie of a route i've taken on a motorcycle, something like in LONG WAY ROUND but i have no idea what software to use in order to do it.

basically take a map and then draw a route on it in red or something but have it animated as the route progresses. follow?

not even sure if this is the right place to ask.

can anyone get me started? i'm open to any suggestions and thanks in advance!!

From my experience there are 2 main ways you could do this
1)An animated gif
2)Using macromedia/adobe flash

do you have any experience in either of them things ?

an animated gif i think would take too long and would not look very fluid IMO.
i would like the route to 'flow' around the map.

i know a little bit of flash but nearly no action script ;( but if thats the program that people use to do it, i'll start getting some tutorials!

I didnt even imagine you would need to use action script to do this in flash

You can proberbly use Paths to do it.

I would personally be enclined to research the Google Map's API, I'm sure it's possible to do something like that. It would look good, too.
