Mac book pro charger..

Hi. My mac book pro is on its last leg. It's a few years old and has seen better days. The battery went and had to resort to using the wall charger for it to work at all. Now the wall charger has failed me. I tried to use a friends and their charger wouldn't work. My friend has a new computer she just bought last year. Could this be the problem? HELP! I need to get into this computer. I have important docs I need.

i see 2 options.
1: buy a new charger that supports your computer.
2: take out the harddrive -> Install it in another computer -> boot up a live Linux distribution -> find your files and transfer them to a USB drive.
