I hear that if you make your own captcha instead of the standard ones with boards, it is even harder for spammers to break it.

Yeah our captcha helped but didn't stop it.

Probably because vBulletin's CAPTCHA is too widespread among internet forums.

DJChris what did you base your bans on? A lot of times people will just sign up for bragging right. " I belong to 500 forums dude. Top that." That sort of stupid crap.
