Im looking to upgrade my graphics card and i am wondering if my power supply will be able to run either of these 3 cards ok, and which one to choose. I dont plan on overclocking.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

All of those cards should run fine on your HX 520watt. See here is a list of the power draw of the video cards you listed, Keep in mind this is the power draw of a whole system with the video card:

So the HD 4890 is the most power hungry and that system needs 322watts max. The HX 520 watt has 500watts on its 12volt rail. Which basically means your power supply should be more than enough for any of those video cards. And your not even running an i7 processor, so your system will draw alot less power

But also If those video cards are in british pounds, than i would say your getting scammed. The core 216 you mentioned is $300 U.S right? And the HD 4890 is over 323$ U.S. These video cards are alot cheaper in the u.s ($170 for the core 216 and $250 for the HD 4890).

or am i converting this wrong?

Oh ok, idk i was thinking about the exchange rate and i guess i was alittle off xD..

But yeah man thats a great power supply you have, im jealous :D

Thanks its been going strong for over a year. Need to make up my mind which card to get now

if you go to that link i gave you, scroll down to the bottom, theres a tab to go to different games to look at the graphs.

The HD 4870 matches performance with the GTX 260, and the HD 4890 is maybe 10-15 fps faster than both of those video cards. In some games its almost 30fps faster but thats at really high res.

Basically if you play at 1280x1024 or 1440x900 res the HD 4890 isnt worth the cost.. if you play at 1680x1050 or higher you need the HD 4890

Thanks again for the reply, i have a 19" monitor at the moment but will be upgradeing to a 22" in the future. I will go with either the GTX 260 or the HD 4870. Thankyou for the help.

Wow, the cards are getting a lot cheaper now.
A 1GB ATI 4870 for £146? I may just have to go for that myself...
