Thank you for your Help!

It's really not a big upgrade at all, and it's quite outdated. You would be better just investing in a new system.

As long as he's on DDR2 he could get a pretty big boost for not a lot of money, depending on what he's doing.

Thank you for the replies, I appreciate them very much!

At the moment I am using this computer for basic home use; (browsing internet, facebook, myspace etc). Although I would like to update for * Cough! PC gaming!!!. I only have a £250 budget, any suggested would again be much appreciated!

I would get a cheap am2+ board, an athlon ii 620, and something like a HD 4850.

I do not know anywhere in England with reasonable prices, so I suggest checking eBay first.

Edit: you also need some DDR2. Check what all that will cost, and we can make adjustments if necessary.

I want to upgrade from Pentium 4 2.66 GHz to Pentium 4 3.4 GHz. I don't have much knowledge with PC's and looking for some help.

As long as you have access to the BUS/RAM speeds in the BIOS you'll be ok to go with it. They work on different bus speeds. Here's a few pointers though...

The 3.4Ghz CPU has a max TDP of 103W compared to 67W for the 2.66Ghz model so you will need a better CPU cooler.

But you should see the benefits, the 3.4 has hyperthreading (2 virtual cores) and comes with 1MB L2 cache, double the cache size of the 2.66.

You can get some Mobo,CPU and RAM deals but these rely on on-board GPU's for graphics.
