Laptop hard drive crapped out

If money is no option, there are controled enviorments that can take appart hard drives and retrieve info from the individual platters. It is very expensive. Last I checked, it was like $1000 for about 100GB.

I've never heard of the freezer trick. If you do try it, let us know how that works out. But you can go to Best Buy or some computer repair shop too. The big name stores will usually have a way of retrieving data off of bad drives. They may need to send it out and it may cost a bundle, but if the data is that important, I guess it's worth it.
