Helping my friend fix a keyboard problem.

Whenever a letter key is pressed my friend can press A after it and the cursor moves back one space.

Any idea what the problem is?

It is unlikely that the keyboard is a problem.
It's most likely a driver, controller, or setup issue. And until there is no information about this system, this keyboard and other devices connected to this system, it is not even possible to guess absolutely anything.

It was the keyboard. Another keyboard was plugged in and it works fine.

The keyboard was an ibuypower which from what I understand isn't a very good keyboard.

I think you have enabled the "Overtype mode" in their word processor or text editor. This mode allows users to overwrite existing text instead of inserting new text. When this mode is activated, pressing the A key after another letter will replace that letter with an "A", and move the cursor back one space.

To disable Overtype mode, your friend can try the following steps:

  1. Open the word processor or text editor they are using.
  2. Look for an option called "Overtype" or "Overwrite" in the program's settings or preferences.
  3. If the option is enabled, click on it to disable it.
  4. Save the changes and try typing again to see if the issue is resolved.
If the issue persists, there may be other keyboard settings or shortcuts that are causing this behaviour.
