Sure, in the grand scheme of things it's not that much - but if you look at the components I've used so far, it's quite a bit for something that wouldn't achieve, for this project at least, a great deal. I'm using a ~£3 humidity sensor, ~£3 barometric pressure sensor and temperature sensor combined, along with some veroboard and other bits I had lying around (including the Arduino itself!)

That board seems to provide some extra ports that make it a bit easier to hook up some additional sensors, but when I have enough ports on the Arduino and know how to hook everything up anyway with the necessary pull ups / pull downs, it just seems like adding something else in the chain for not an awful lot of benefit.

Not to shout your suggestions down though - it's a fair point, and if I were doing this with say a younger person who I was introducing to electronics, then I'd be a lot more inclined to go with the dedicated shield to make the task a bit clearer! :)
