The US also has massive socio-economic class issues there are areas in America which look like a war has happened which are simply ignored. The same was true of the soviet union at their prime and at present. The US is in the top 5 for registered friendly fire rates in conflict anyway so having the close relationship our countries have is not all sweet smelling roses.

A super power is a country that has the capacity to project dominating power and influence anywhere in the world, and sometimes, in more than one region of the globe at a time, and so may plausibly attain the status of global hegemony. It is one step above the UK which is a "greater power" we are strong in all social, economic and political areas and a lesser country may see our opinions as more weighted then others.

Before anyone mentions it the first world is the western cultural world, second world are the socialist states (communism) and the 3rd world is everywhere else.

* 190th Fighter Squadron, Blues and Royals friendly fire incident - March 28, 2003. A pair of American A-10s from the 190th attacked four British armoured reconnaissance vehicles of the Blues and Royals, killing Lance-Corporal of Horse Matty Hull, during the invasion of Iraq.
* An American airstrike kills eight Kurdish Iraqi soldiers. Kurdish officials advised US helicopters hit the men who were guarding a branch of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in Mosul. The US military said the attack was launched after soldiers identified armed men in a bunker near a building reportedly used for bomb-making, and that American troops called for the men to put down their weapons in Arabic and Kurdish before launching the strike.[42]
* American soldier Mario Lozano is suspected of killing Italian intelligence officer Nicola Calipari and wounding Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena in Baghdad. * British Royal Marine Christopher Maddison killed when his river patrol boat was hit by missiles after being wrongly identified as an enemy vessel approaching a Royal Engineers checkpoint on the Al-Faw Peninsula, Iraq.[43]
* British Challenger 2 tank came under fire from another British tank in a nightime firefight, blowing off the turret and killing two crew members, Corporal Stephen John Allbutt and Trooper David Jeffrey Clarke[44]

I do notice, but i would stay away from bringing up the subject on a forum largely American..

Well war is a very confusing place, and we have the most guys over there. If another member of the coalition had more FF incidents than us then it would look really bad on them. The overwhelming majority of allied troops there are US, so statistically it all works out.


As for the patriot missile incidents, I have heard a lot of reports about them messing up and personally I consider the system a failure. Why is the Army worrying about air defense anyways? That's the Air Force's job.

It can happen. But i'm not sure it would work now. How could, Britain for example, rely on a super power in war if it can't even sort out the rights of it's own citizens ?

Theres being a super power, and then being a super power. The latter being the useful one, where people will rely on you in conflicts and not think of you as a threat.

I was just making the point that human rights has nothing to do with super power status. its all about power projection and global influence. China will be a super power soon if they aren't already.
