Dear All,

I got this used power supply from a relative:
GIGABYTE - PC Components - Power Supply - GreenMax Plus series - GreenMax Plus 650W

... and a left over GTX 480.

The PSU has two 8 pin (6+2) +12v rails and each is rated 40A separately. Max combined wattage for both of them is 624W.

The GTX 480 requires two rails; one 8 pin and one 6 pin (the detachable 2 pin will be loos for the latter).

Dunno how amperage works, so is it gonna be fine to use these two rails like this?

I'm confused.

Thank you in advance.

Should be fine. Basically what's going on is there are two separate rails, each of which are good to 40A individually, but they're both getting their power from some component that is only rated to 624w. The reason for these types of setups is so you don't have to balance loads as well.
