Is this possible: POS system that works with shopping cart hosted locally?

I am trying to get my physical store to expand by means of e-commerce. What I want is a POS system that updates (in real time) the server's inventory as product goes out, as well as updating what gets sold & shipped online, to prevent orders were we ran out of product. This, and I want to host everything in store. I have been looking into AIMsi + Active-e, but I'd have to pay a monthly fee for the active-e hosting.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
