Is this ATX?

ok, same question from yesterday. im trying to put a desktop computer into a tower... here is a picture of the back of the computer:

Also, at this link, in the table next to "chassis type" is ATX.

I've also checked the Dell website for the model (Dell Optiplex GX1), although, it didnt say whether it was ATX or not.

Please confirm if this is ATX and supply some information on changing a computers case without blowing it up

no no no, im trying to put the ugly horizontal thingy into a pretty towery thingy... but i believe it has to be atx to do so, please fill me in if this computer is or isnt atx

No this will not work in your typical atx case. On your pic of your pc ... the vid card and sound (which both appear to be onboard) are all spread out horizontally.

If you look at a pic of a newer motherboard ... all the connections ... i.e. ps/2, usb, audio, ethernet LAN ... are all within a 2"x6" area. Look at this for an example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Showi...IDIA+nForce4+SLI+ATX+AMD+Motherboard+-+Retail

Your connections need to fit in that area. Your motherboard will come with a custom faceplate to match its own connections ... you would knock out the faceplate that comes with the case and use the motherboard one.

Does this clear it up more for you?

***edit*** BTW ... it looks like your original motherboard uses a riser board system for it's PCI connections (connects perpendicular to the motherboard) ... thats what all those silver slots above your video and audio connections are. Those would be the slots for your ethernet LAN card if you wanted to install one. I'd just leave that pc alone ... possibly paint it ... maybe use some chrome spray paint and create a cool look. Of course ... remove the stuff inside first so you dont mess any of it up.

any way i could make it work? couldnt i just modify the new case? on the site i mentioned, it said that the chassis type was atx...

edit: sorry didnt read post properly... k so i can move this computer to a tower case if i modify the back so that it matches the motherboards style?

if you got the time, tools, and know-how ... then you can make anything fit. Just seems like a foolish waste of time to transfer old stuff to a new case, and modding the crap out of it just so it will work. Im telling ya though ... its going to look goofy with those video and audio connectors of your motherboard sticking out in the PCI slot area. Turn the current case upright, call it a tower and be done with it.

meh, why not get a new motherboard instead if i do get 1, what do you think i shud get? im on a budget and does it have to be compatible with the current stuff in the computer, or will anything do?

Type ofr RAM?
AGP? PCI? If AGP what speed?
SOCKET?
