I have a Dell PC(Optiplex GX 280). I use it to run a process which takes about 4 hours. Is there some way to have my computer automatically turn itself off in 5 hours? Is there such a thing as a PC sleep timer?

Something free would be appreciated :)

Cant the Task Scheduler that is included with all versions of Windows do this?

In the past I have used the shutdown.exe program from Microsoft, off the top of my head (at the command line) type shutdown /t:xx - where xx is a number in seconds on when to shutdown your computer.

All you should need to do is calculate when you want it to shutdown and use calculator to convert it in to seconds and then type that at the command line.

Regarding the original post....... I have windows XP service pack 3.

Just looking for something simple and basic that I can use to set a shut off time for 5 hours later.

In that case use the shutdown command that is part of XP.

Click on the START menu, then RUN and type SHUTDOWN -I

This will bring up a GUI that you can then type in 90000 seconds (which is 5 hours), choose what options you want and then press OK!

It's really easy to do so give it a try!
