Okay I just got a new comp a bit earlier its a gateway E series somthing or other and I've been thinking about upgrading it. New case, Fans, Extra HDDs, DVD RW, etc. But as I've read around this board I've seen some pretty high numbers on the PSU's for your comps. I've always thought that mine was a 300w one but with further inspection its labled at a 160w... Now I have a P4 2.4Ghz processer, a Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 440, 2 30gig Maxtor HDDs, 2 CD drives (one RW) 766mb of DDR-SDRAM and about 4 fans inside... Now did I just misread is or somthing (like 160w being its minimum or somthing) or what?

So here are some questions..

1) Is it possible to be running on 160w? I've read on some other forums the drain on some of the computer components and the math doesn't add up!

2) Is the "lack of juice" making my computer run slower or anything?

3) And what kind of PSU should I look into for when I want to upgrade and add extra stuff.

Any help would be great. Thanks!

Just my two cents if you say this was just bought, has a P-4 CPU 2.4Gig My guess is its definately a 300Watt PSU. With nothing else in the system but a hard drive 160 watt PSU would not boot that CPU and hard drive no less manage to care for a GeForce 4 video card and DVD- Burner, ect.
