Is Larry Platt Dead?

You know him from his hit single "Pants on the Ground" from starring on American Idol to the Academy Awards General Larry Platts is/was a good person and having his career explode overnight. I had read somewhere that he is dead then on another place it said it was a rumor? Does anyone actually know?
