My friend has an iPod Touch, with a broken home button, and power button. Today, the lock screen wouldn't slide over or anything, for some reason... He's running "the last ios before the newest one", so i'm guessing iOS 9.0.2. I told him to try to power it off, he got to a screen in Assistive Touch, held in "lock screen", but he couldn't slide to power off... How could he turn it off?? (he would turn it on by plugging it in).

I also asked if he would want to jailbreak it, for the ability to install Activator, which would let him reroute the volume button to power toggle...

If the Home button is broken, then the only other thing you can try is to reset via iTunes. Otherwise, repair it or replace it.
