Oh ok. I will try that tomorrow as I need to study for a test. I don't have any amplifiers nor splittlers. I'll hook my computer up directly to the phone adapter I have (for international calls) and see if that makes a difference. Then I will plug it in directly to the modem. And then do at the point of entry like you said. If nothing changes then, well, then I'll post again lol.

Phone adapter? Isn't cox cable?

It is. But, right before we connect the cable from the modem to the router, we pass it through a phone adapter. This phone adapter, what it does is it calls internationally using our internet which is much faster. See, we need that because the company charges $25 a month and we can call anywhere and talk as much as we want for that. Since we got family back in Brazil it was a great deal. From that adapter it goes to the router (240mb) then to my computer (1gb).
