I just had to replace the ethernet cable from the house to my building due to the puppy chewing through it.
I use a cable modem with a wi-fi mesh system.
The ethernet port of the cable modem connects to the WAN port of the main wi-fi mesh device and the cable to my building connects to the ethernet port of said device.
I use an ethernet switch to split the ethernet to two PCs in my building.
The speed reported by the wi-fi mesh control app is 553Mbps download and 33Mbps upload.
The speed on my PC connected through ethernet is 95.10Mbps download and 94.29Mbps upload even with the ethernet connected directly to the PC.
I did have to put a new end on the ethernet cable as the dog chewed through it about 6" from the end while I was installing it, but I verified it was wired exactly like the other end of the 100' ethernet cable.
I've done everything I can think of (reset modem, whole network & ethernet adapter and rebooted the PCs) and nothing works.
Could plugging in the old ethernet cable after a storm without realizing the puppy had chewed through it have damaged the ethernet surge protector or the ethernet port of the wi-fi mesh device?
Any idea what the problem is?
EDIT:
I removed the ethernet surge protector and that didn't improve the speed at all so that's not the issue.
I know the ethernet cable is good and surely if the ethernet port of the WI-FI mesh device was damaged I'd not get any ethernet connection at all. I can't believe the cable is bad as it is new
So I've got a problem that by all rights should not exist.
Here's the thing. I'm getting the upload speed I should be getting which is 100Mbps, however the download speed is 1/10 of the 1 gig I should be getting. Now if the ethernet cable were wired wrong or damaged, I wouldn't get the near 100Mbps upload speed, right?
I'll see if my co-worker has an ethernet cable tester tomorrow and verify that the ethernet cable is indeed good.
I even put a new end on the other end of the cable in case I damaged the cable pulling it through the conduit and that didn't even help.
I looked and there's no nicks, kinks, breaks or anything that could damage the wiring internally along the length of the cable.
Nevermind, I solved the issue. I re-terminated the first end of the cable which was the first time I had done one and I now get the high speed I should be getting.
The wiring wasn't as neat as it should have been in the connector and apparently that seriously affected the speed I was getting.
